A good day at Leighton Moss

A sunny and warm (but not hot) day at Leighton Moss produced 7 or 8 species today.

There were a few Blue Tailed Damselflies and even fewer Azure Damselflies.

At least 4 male Black Tailed Skimmers (which I don't think I've seen there before).

Maybe 8 Brown Hawkers.

Only 5 Common Darters.

A probable male Common Hawker (I didn't get a good view of it though.

Warriorflies

The word "dragonfly" has an ambiguous usage in English. It refers both to the anisoptera (sometimes called "true dragonflies"), as opposed to the zygoptera ("damselflies"), and Odanata as a whole (anisoptera + zygoptera).

A beautiful day at Cunsey Beck

I took a big chance on today's weather forecast and took a look at Cunsey Beck, near Windermere, in the hope of getting photos of Beautiful Demoiselle. The weather turned out better than the forecast could let me hope for, and just good enough.
